September 7, 1998.

March 31, 1998. New aeration system has been inroduced

When substrates such as molasses, starch hydrolysates, cellulose hydrolysates etc. are fermented to give ethanol, an equivalent amount of carbon dioxide is formed. Due to the necessity of adding oxygen to the fermenter during part or whole of the fermentetion cycle, air is normally added in the fermenter vessel. The carbon dioxide gets mixed with air, and a recovery of the carbon will be more costly.
Together with our Biostil licensee in India, Messrs Alfa Laval (India) Ltd, a revised aeration system has been successfully introduced in one of the ethanol plants in India, whereby the required oxygen is added by aeration of the substrate before it enters the main fermenter. In this way carbon dioxide is recovered in a very pure form, and more than 90% of theoretical amounts.
The new system can be adapted to any fermentation, and can be using air, oxygen-enriched air, or oxygen, accordnig to availability and cost.
